AAPD Annual Session 2018 Recap – Unveiling the IDS AR App VIVARRA

May 17th, 2018

Another successful AAPD Annual Session has come and gone. Elizabeth, Kristi, Gavin, and David were so excited to meet everyone and talk about all the new projects and products we are working on right now. Our most exciting product is our latest innovation: the VIVARRA augmented reality app. Did you get a chance to check it out at the show? If not, we recommend you book a demo to see the app in action.

The VIVARRA AR App and Your Patients

VIVARRA is a fun, playful app, but we want to dive deeper into the benefits of VIVARRA and how it helps combat patient anxiety.

Did you know that a patient’s waiting room experience has an impact on a doctor’s rating and consequently the likelihood of a patient returning? * Whether you want to admit it or not, anxiety is inherent in your patients, with up to 74% of children and adolescent patients reporting some sort of dental anxiety. **

This fear is a real barrier to effective treatment. Sitting idly while waiting for an appointment creates an opportunity for young imaginations to run wild, feeding into any trepidation they may feel and impacting the effectiveness of the appointment. There is an easy way to use that time waiting and instead transform it into a positive and engaging experience — a fun, educational distraction. IDS presents VIVARRA.

Our app uses augmented reality (AR) along with our popular murals and graphics to take office theming to the next level. Patients explore graphics with a mobile device, bringing characters to life right in your waiting room, treatment rooms, or wherever patients have idle time.

Each theme has a character that springs to life and along with a human friend, demonstrating proper brushing and flossing techniques. Brushing is fun and easy to do with the help of an animal companion. These characters then lead the user through an I Spy game, dances, and other in-app activities, providing a variety of entertainment.

The VIVARRA app includes educational demonstrations and fun games activities like making your AR character perform different dance moves.

Augmented reality is a new technology and it is on the rise. In the article Healthcare Virtual Reality Enhances Clinician, Patient Satisfaction By Elizabeth O’Dowd she states

“While the initial uses of VR in healthcare may not be immediately apparent, its applications can be spread through many facets in healthcare including surgery, education, pain management, rehabilitation, and therapy.”

IDS is taking the educational potential of AR and combining it with the fun and entertainment that the IDS brand is famous for, creating an app just for dentists and their concerns.

“VR and AR also have many patient facing uses as well for pain management, therapy, and can even be used to reduce fear in patients.”

With the right tools, you can combat dental fear in your office. Are you interested in introducing augmented reality into your patient experience? Contact the VIVARRA team to book your demo: 1.888.340.6690

Celebrating 10 Years of Imagination Dental Solutions

October 2nd, 2017

In 2017 Imagination Dental Solutions is celebrating 10 years of serving the dental community and changing the lives of children and dentists alike with our magical themed offices. October marks the month when IDS moved from a fun idea into a reality.

Company President, David Nolan, an artist and entrepreneur, began his business career as a promotional window painter. He moved into the realm of 3D by making temporary props for photo studios.

SYC founders Yet Ngo and Dave Nolan in the early days.

Seeing the potential in this new endeavor, Dave expanded and began making more permanent displays for movie theaters and storefronts. He created the IDS parent company Studio Y Creations (SYC) in 1993 and brought on a business partner, Andrew Hulbert, in 1998.

In 2004 SYC was contacted by a dentist named Dr. Tonya looking for some unique office decor. With our experience creating props for theme parks, she knew we would create the fun environment she was hoping for. Little did Dave and Andrew know, this request would alter the future of the company forever.

The demand was there and we could supply it. After learning about the unique needs and daily life of a dentist, we saw the obstacles faced with patient comfort and retention and our chance to overcome it. We wanted to tailor our 3D creations to fit into the dental world. In 2007 Imagination Dental Solutions became official. A theming company just for dentists!

We think Dave put it best,

“We have achieved this milestone through the hard work and dedication of the members of the IDS Team to constantly improve our workflow and explore new ideas. Our culture of customer service that exists throughout the entire organization has made us well known and keeps customers coming back. Along with a decade in business, we are also celebrating the completion of over 250 dental projects.

We have been honored to have become a part of the dental community and have had the pleasure of working with and meeting many people all over the USA, Canada, and now the world as we expand into the UK and Saudi Arabia. We look forward to continuing to build on these strong relationships.

In the future, we will be expanding into new technologies and new experiences to help bring in young clients and make them primed for a fun and successful dental visit.”

IDS hopes that our clients will join us by celebrating their own IDS theming install anniversaries in their own offices!

Fun Innovations in Dental Technology – Invasion of the Clones

March 2nd, 2017

Okay, maybe not so much of an invasion, more of a foray. If you have ever had the misfortune of losing a permanent tooth there are only two solutions, an implant or dentures. However, recent advancements in science have found a possible third solution.

Did you know that teeth have stem cells? These stem cells give researchers the opportunity to grow human teeth! A new technique pioneered at the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Laboratory of Dr. Jeremy Mao, Edward V. Zegarelli Professor of Dental Medicine, and a professor of biomedical engineering at Columbia University can build an anatomically correct tooth in as little as 9 weeks once implanted in the mouth. Amazing, especially considering that at age 74, 26% of adults have lost all of their permanent teeth (National Center for Biotechnology Information).

Adult teeth can now be regrown in your mouth!

A Canadian dentist must have been ahead of his time in November 2011 when he decided to buy the discolored molar of John Lennon at an auction for $31,200. His hope was that he could clone the British musician by extracting his DNA from the tooth.

Science may not be able to bring the beloved artist back… yet, but we could potentially clone his teeth. Not sure why we would want to, but then again, not sure why anyone would pay $31,200 for a tooth! The tooth fairy might have to up her rates in the future!
